My first oil painting using palette knife. Painted under the tuition of Monica Coleman in her home in Ringwood. Whilst I cannot take any credit for the composition I was pleased with my execution of perspective, the blending in the stream and the delicacy of the birch leaves and branches created by ‘kissing’ the surface of the canvas with the palette knife. I suppose I can also take credit for the form of the ferns beneath the trees as these were not part of the tutorial. Oil is so much richer than watercolour or acrylic but the drying time and need to use cleaning mediums other than water means you need plenty of dedicated space to work with it. I will probably try using water missable oils in the future.
